Rising damp devices: questions to ask before buying
Illustrative image.
Define the intended use
A device sold for rising damp should be assessed against that specific problem. The label “anti-damp” is not an explanation for every stain or patch of peeling paint. Ask what supports the proposed cause and whether other sources of water need separate attention.
Read different documents for different purposes
The manual describes use and installation. A compliance document addresses the requirements it names. A customer review describes an individual experience. None automatically replaces the others. When a performance claim is made, look for the measurement method, starting condition, building context and follow-up, rather than relying on a repeated marketing statement.
Keep a record of the decision
Retain the exact model reference, manual and purchase conditions. Ask what happens if the recommended installation position is not possible. Plan an initial record and comparable follow-up observations. Do not set a universal date by which every wall material must be dry simply because a device has been installed.
