Rising damp treatment without major building work: what to check
Illustrative image.
Separate device installation from building repairs
A device that does not require major installation work does not mean the building will require no intervention. A leak, defective drainage or damaged finishes may need separate attention. Ask exactly what “without building work” covers in the proposal.
Ask about the actual building
Clarify whether rising damp is the working explanation, what supports it and whether more than one source is possible. Describe outside ground levels and below-ground spaces. Remote advice can help prepare checks without turning photographs into a definitive technical conclusion.
Plan what happens afterwards
Keep an initial record and note any repairs carried out at the same time as installation. Otherwise, subsequent changes become difficult to interpret. Avoid irreversible finishing work based solely on a theoretical drying date. Follow-up observations and the needs of the wall materials should guide the next steps.
