Record a useful starting point

Before installation, mark the walls and observation areas on a plan. Note visible materials, coatings and recent events such as a repaired leak or changed ventilation. Photographs should show recognisable positions rather than close-ups that cannot be located again.

Compare consistent observations

Keep the measurement method, equipment, points and observation conditions consistent. Changing instruments or scales can make figures difficult to compare. Electrical readings need interpretation in relation to materials and salts; one number does not describe the entire thickness of a wall.

Interpret changes in context

An improved paint surface does not quantify moisture inside masonry. Old marks can also remain after water inputs change. Record other repairs and ask for suitable investigation if observations conflict. Monitoring documents an evolution; it does not automatically establish that every change was caused by the device.
